REVIEW | Etude House V-Line Slim Maker No.2 Sun Pink/Cherry Brown [Contour Set]

März 23, 2015

Hey There!

Today is quite a special day because…….. it’s my first time *ever* to try contouring! Now, as a very fair person it is quite difficult to find shades that suit my skintone. Most contour kits are either way too dark even when used with a light hand and, worse, way too warm so it lookes really weird on a cool/pink-tones person like me. Also, in Germany contouring is not really a thing; the only thing people use here are highlighter and bronzer and those always have shimmer or even glitter in them. Ugh. shudders Since those products make me look like a badly self-tanned discoball I have stayed away from contouring as long as possible – but I really would’ve liked to try it. So I was super excited when I saw that Etude House was launching their newest comtouring products, the V-Line Slim Maker. They come in two shades: No 1 Sun Gold/Wood Brown and No 2 Sun Pink/ Cherry Brown which I’ll review today.

PACKAGING
Etude House knows how to make princess dreams come true. Dat imprinted texture!
I love almost everything about the package – it looks cute, is sturdy, has a mirror inside (wow!) and even comes with a brush that isn’t of bad quality. The only thing that I have to mention is that it would be perfect, if one could store the brush inside the product somehow. Since the brush is kinda tiny I don’t really know where to put it and it would be great for touch-ups if you could carry it around with you but that’s really the only criticism I have (most people probably have contour brushes already so it doesn’t really matter I guess..)
SWATCHES

The highlighter shade is a lot more pigmented than the dark shade – it took 3 or 4 swipes to get the dark shade to what you see here. I do like the highlighter a lot for the cheeks because it’s a bit shimmery but not too sparkly (if that makes sense…? More glowy than anything, no heavy glitter particles.) The dark shade as you can see is still pretty warm – a little bit too warm toned for me unfortunately :/ I can wear it, but there are shades out there that would probably suit me a lot better. If used with a light hand though, it works pretty well even with my cool toned skin tone.
PERFORMANCE

…definitely makes a difference and my face appears less chubby/round than usual. I actually like that the texture is not super pigmented – it makes it a lot easier for my pale self to get the darkness right without looking overly tanned. I still need a light hand and I think it is still a bit too warm for me – I probably need a more ashy color for it to be a perfect match. However, I do enjoy this product a lot, especially for my very first contour kit ever! I love the highlighter a lot but I only used it on my cheeks – it’s a bit too shimmery for nose and forehead in my opinion.

…contouring should be fun!! 😀 I tried to use concealer as highlighter but it was barely noticeable as it is really my skintone – I lightened it up with white eyeshadow (yep, white eyeshadow, that’s how zombie I am.) Close-ups (I hope you can see the contouring, I tried to keep it as natural as possible)

Final verdict: I think this is a great product, especially for contour newbies or for people who want to just dip their toes into contouring and think if it’s something for them. I’m far too lazy to contour my face every single day, but it can be nice for photoshoots or parties where I know lots of pictures will be taken. It’s also pretty cost effective since you get a dark shade plus a highlighter in one package – so convenient! If you are looking for a highly pigmented shade, this may not be your cup of tea – it is def. intended to be used on quite fair skin. If you’re more tanned or darker than me, I’d recommend to look in a different place. For everyone else though, it’s a perfect gateway drug into contouring 🙂 Etude House V-Line Slim Maker retails at Jolse for $13,98 at the moment as well as lots of other products from Etude House 🙂
