Get The Glow: Hanyul Luminant Cushion Review in #23

September 8, 2015

Hi There!

If you are still waiting on a response from me in the comments or one of the various emails that I received in the past: I truly am. Being busy is no excuse, but there are days when I can barely off the couch and have to force myself to get to work or continue writing my thesis and it all can get too much pretty quickly. I am trying to answer as many comments as I remember but if you don’t get a response from me: Just ask again. Please. I am just tired and need a small reminder.
That being said, today I received the official email that I FREAKING PASSED MY JAPANESE MASTER OF ARTS!! The official certificates will be given on September 25th, but since I am not in Japan at the moment, I will miss the official ceremony and all of that 🙁 My Japanese professor might come to Berlin though to give me my certificate in person which would be rad because he is a wonderful person (he also has lots of university business in Germany so he wouldn’t only come to see me. Although I wouldn’t be too sure as we have a really good relationship. Did I mention how wonderful he is..?) With only roughly 15-20 pages and 3 weeks on my German thesis left I can’t wait for when I don’t feel this huge pressure on me anymore. I’ll probably be sick as soon as I have freedom because that is how my body deals with stress. Afterwards,
Enough boring thesis updates though, let’s just cut to the chase! A few weeks (okay, okay, who am I kidding……months) ago I bought the Hanyul Luminant Cushion in shade #23 for my cousin as a present and she was so sweet to give it to me for some serious testing. Hence, the color is a tad too dark for me in this review but this is intended, as my cousin is actually more tanned than I am (but then again, even the walls in my room are more tanned than I am..) Let’s just say that my cousin is lucky it’s a tad too dark for me because otherwise, she might have never seen this cushion again.
This cushion was extremely tempting for me because for starters, I never tried anything from the brand Hanyul before. The high-end look definitely made it even more grabby hands for me so I am very happy I got a rather cost-effective way of trying this out (as I bought it off a fellow AB skincare enthusiast!)
Official product description:
Makes your face look small by its 3-dimensional effect
Cares skin tone and makes it shine with natual luster
Brightening, Anti-wrinkle, UV protection functional product
Also, doesn’t Lim Ji-Yeon doesn’t just look stunning in this Hanyul cushion advertorial?!
(I am totally not influenced by those kind of ads, I swear.)
Ingredients:
Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Phenyl Trimethicone, Cyclohexasiloxane, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Nelumbo Nucifera Germ Extract, Lauryl PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Arbutin, Acrylates/Ethylhexyl Acrylate/Dimethicone Methacrylate Copolymer, Sodium Chloride, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Panax Ginseng Root Water, Aluminum Hydroxide, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Stearic Acid, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Caprylyl Glycol, Xanthan Gum, Dimethicone, Ethylhexylglycerin, Disodium EDTA, Adenosine, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Mother of Pearl, Glycerin, Nelumbo Nucifera Flower Extract, Prunus Mume Fruit Extract, Polysorbate 80, 1,2-Hexanediol, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Hydrolyzed Ginseng Saponins, Sodium Polyaspartate, Phytosphingosine, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Sodium Methyl Stearoyl Taurate, Aspergillus Ferment, CI 77492, CI 77491, CI 77499, Fragrance
Ingredients from the stellar Hwahae app (Itunes | Android). I was very pleased to see the absence of any oils (especially mineral and olive which tend to break me out lots and lots with regular use) and two physical sunscreen filters at the very beginning. Plus, Hanyul threw in some fancy random extracts like Ginseng that makes me feel like a K-pop star when I use this.
Packaging
Sexy new innocent untouched cushion!
Like all Hanyul products, it comes in a no-frills box with mainly white, blacks and blue tones. As unspectacular as the packaging is, I actually really enjoy the design of the cushion itself. Especially the sponge felt a bit thicker and better made than some other that I’ve tried.
Swatches
I must say, I was surprised how well this color suited me for being a #23. I don’t even have to look up swatches, in 99% of all cases the lightest number of any BB cream and/ or cushion will suit my skintone more or less. Although this is the darker shade, it does run quite light (NC20 would be my guess?). It is a tad too dark for me still but totally wearable, especially with a lighter concealer. You can see that the IOPE runs a lot more orange while the Hanyul cushion is quite neutral by itself.
Before & After
Don’t be surprised if you follow me regularly around on Instagram, I didn’t magically change my hair color again. Since I intended to write this review a long time ago, the before and after pictures are not up to date as you can see by the different hair color and worse hyperpigmentation than at the moment.
You can see an obvious color difference between the face and neck but not too bad for a #23, don’t ya think..?

…..THIS CUSHION. AH. I absolutely love the natural finish this gives me. It is not as dewy as my beloved Luna Water Essence Founpact but it still enhances the natural glow of the skin. The coverage could be a bit heavier for my taste but I think it is a very good medium-coverage cushion. I don’t even mind the hyperpigmentation shining through much as my overall complexion just looks really nice with this cushion.

I used this for a week before I had to give it back to my cousin (or: before I felt guilty using up her product) and was seriously sad about letting it go. If it would be easier to source, I would have already repurchased this in the lighter shade. I do have this on my wishlist for my trip to New York though and might source it via a shopping service if I can’t get my hands on it in Flushing or the like. I did not experience any breakouts from using this and it was basically the antithesis to being cakey. The cushion stayed basically like this for the entire day (the coverage wore down a bit naturally, but it didn’t shift into my pores or become an ugly mess of creasiness.)
You can get rather cheap refills on Ebay for 15-20€ a pop ( a great way of testing out cushions if you don’t feel like splurging on a 40€+ full-size item!) as well as the cushion + refill for 35-45€ on Ebay, Amazon and various other sites. There also is a cover version of this out there but I personally think, I would rather go with this version again as I absolutely love the natural finish with a subtle glow!
