Korean Skincare Review: Tony Moly Goat Milk Moisture Essence

Mai 29, 2015

Good evening everybody!

I’ve been meaning to write a detailed review about this product for a really long time but somehow.. something always happened. The last days, I was either too tired or too busy indulging in late-night snicker’s ice cream binge eatings writing my thesis but today will be the day where I slay the demotivation dragon! Many of you have been interested in the new goat milk line from Tony Moly and today I’ll be reviewing the Goat Milk Moisture Essence.
The main reason to buy this product for me was that the first ingredient before water or anything else is actually 50% goat milk extract! (The toner + emulsion contain 30% and the cream 60% goat milk extract respectively.) Since I personally am not a fan of thick(er) creams I decided to go with the lighter formula that had the next highest percentage of goat goodness in there.

I couldn’t find newer promotion pictures as apparently there are also CC Creams available in this line as well as body lotion and body wash! Goat milk extract from New Zealand promises to moisturize the skin deeply and be rich in nutrients. I was very excited when I saw the main ingredients and off into my basket it went! :3 The overall ingredient’s list isn’t too bad with goat milk extract, glycerin, hyaluronic acid and ceramide in the top 7 ingredients.

Ingredients:

Goat Milk Extract, Water, Glycerin, Glycereth-26, Sodium Hyaluronate, Dimethicone, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Ceramide 3, Butylene Glycol, Lecithin, Polysorbate 80, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Anthocyanins, Panthenol, Arachidyl Alcohol, Carbomer, Dipentaerythrityl Hexahydroxystearate, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, Tromethamine, Behenyl Alcohol, Pantolactone, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Arachidyl Glucoside, PEG-2M, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Sucrose Distearae, Polyglyceryl-10 Oleate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Parfum

I transferred the ingredients list to Cosdna and the only real acne trigger in there is Ethylhexyl Palmitate which scored a 4 out of 5.

          PACKAGING

Not gonna lie, right after the compelling „goat milk extract“ argument I was already in awe because of the packaging. Not sure exactly what makes my heart flutter about this but the sleek white packaging along with some black accents and a classic font gives me kind of an oldschool vibe that I really liked. (Think old advertisements, I guess..?)

Product comes in a hygienic pump dispenser. Inside the bottle there is actually a part at the bottom that travels all up to the top of the bottle when you use product so there is almost no waste here as you really get everything out of the bottle, which I appreciate a lot ๐Ÿ™‚ (If there is an actual word or if anyone understood what I meant… feel free to teach me the approrpiate vocabulary please!)

         PERFORMANCE

I tried my best to capture how the actual formula looks like – it’s a milky liquid that has little white goat milk freckles in there. It looks kinda cool and I was surprised the first time I used the essence. It is a bit thicker than your usual watery essences and a bit closer to an emulsion than an essence in terms of texture.

The product spread out on my arm. As you can see it is still very liquidy and probably right in the middle between your usual essence and emulsion. It takes a bit longer to absorb than my watery COSRX essences but overall it does get absorbed well by my skin (I usually wait 1-2 mins before I proceed with my routine.) As for placement in my routine, I was acually using this essence instead of an emulsion after my cosrx essences (White Power Essence -> Snail Mucin Essence -> Tony Moly Goat Milk Moisture Essence->Moisturizer) as it was the thickest out of the bunch.

I really like the scent of this essence; it is very light and fresh and doesn’t linger too long. I found it refreshing in the morning and always looked forward to use this as I liked the scent so much! (And no, it doesn’t smell like goat or goat milk or even goat cheese. Not at all.)

Overall, I really liked this essence. The only downfall for me is that it is not overly moisturizing – I found it hydrating, but I had the feeling that my dry skin was lusting after a little bit more. That being said, I personally think this product will work best for people with oily/dehydrated or normal skins or for people who are searching for a light moisturizer in humid summer time. I often used this as my last moisturizing step when my skin felt saturated enough (usually when I used facial oils the night before or a sleeping pack.) It does work well under make-up and doesn’t pile up. And, most importantly, it did not break me out which is why I used it for 2 months now ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s almost empty now, so if you use it daily twice (like me), it will last you 8-10 weeks approximately. I would probably not repurchase this specific essence but I am open to try other things from this product line as I did enjoy the product overall! (Especially intrigued by the premium cream….)

In short:

+ light, fresh fragrance
+ didn’t break me out
+ light to medium hydration (probably best for oily/dehydrated skins or for summer time)
+ adorable packaging
+ contains 50% of the actual ingredient it advertises with

– not hydrating enough for my dry skin

I’d definitely say give it a try if your skin is not desert-like dry or if you are wondering what to use in the summer time! I wish I had this when I lived through the most hot and humid Japanese summer… Also, Tony Moly just launched a whitening version of this line which will probably contain niacinamide! I got my essence from the one and only Bae and they also stock the new whitening version too! ๐Ÿ™‚

Tomorrow I’ll spend my Saturday off and will bake a cake for the birthday of my boyfriend’s older brother this Sunday! My boyfriend and I will probably spend the evening playing Twilight Princess on the Wii while destroying a significant amount of our snack stock. Yep. That’s what we do, nothing glamorous to find here. Hope this review was helpful and have a great weekend everyone! ๐Ÿ™‚

Lots of love,

Sam
